drafting and planning - colour connotations in film and what they represent

The colour connotations used in my film, poster and magazine will be: red for blood, orange for fire, black for darkness/ mystery and white for lightness and hope as it will build up hope that there is a chance for the survival of the victims. These colours combined together could create a very good contrast and generate colorful effects of darkness.

Drafting and planning - mise en scene - Hair and make up

This is a picture i have taken of the model that i will use as the main villain. As you can see i have got him to mess his hair up as this will create an effect of roughness and thus making him look more evil and demented. Furthermore, it makes it feel as if he doesn't care about looks and is only after one thing. This is the main picture that I will be using for my film magazine

Research into similar products - iconography - film awards i will use

In order to make my film poster more realistic, I will add film awards onto my poster to make it appear more professional and more successful than other films. These are the awards that I will use on my film poster.

Unfortunately these awards are listed for 2010 so I will need to edit these in order for them to be up to date (2015). Also they contain a white background which looks very artificial so I will remove the background on resources such as paint.net or page plus.

Drafting and planning - Film poster template

This is the template for my film poster. The main image is in a circle as the picture is going to be light shining on the main character creating a circular effect with the sides shadowed almost to represent how the darkness is closing in around them. Furthermore this will create a shadow on the back wall which i will be able to edit to show a shadow of the devil creating a secret message which as i stated will be one of the key dividing's between typical horror films and my horror film.
The title will then be listed below in blood to create a scarier effect.
The film awards will be there to fill in any unnecessary space.

Drafting and planning - Film resources i will use to create my film trailer

To create my film trailer I will be using various resources. one of which is movie plus X6, this will allow me to edit my film clips to ensure a good quality of continuity and add several effects to capture the emotions of the actors. Another resource i may select to use is windows 7 movie maker. This resource isn't as good a movie plus X6 but it is easier to edit as it is really basic and easy to use.

Drafting and planning - scanned drawing of Lucifer

This photo below is a drawing of a photo which i have scanned onto the computer to use on my film magazine. This is not the best quality drawing but with the use of editing tools from paint.net and page plus i can edit it and make it a perfect background image.

Drafting and planning - Inspiration for film poster

I have 2 ideas for Film posters. This film poster on the left has various elements which i want to create. My film poster will have the main actor looking at the camera (direct mode of address) with a Devil like figure over his shoulder creating an element of suspense.
The next idea i have is having the having one of the victims standing there with light beaming on him and the shadow in the background of the devil. similar to the film poster on the right.

Drafting and planning - Resources used to make magazine

One key resource i will use to make my magazine is Page plus. Page plus is a resource in which i can edit photos to my desire by adding several effects to manipulate the image.
Another resource i could use is paint.net, paint.net is another effective tool which allows me to easily crop and change images. I will predominantly be using Page plus as: Its enables me to save the image as a JPEG, allows me to use many effects and allows me to get the best quality details due to the variety of tools.

Film magazine draft

This is my draft for my film magazine. I have edited this picture in page plus to create transparent effects on the drawn picture of mine which is the devil and the background in order to make the main character stand out. For my real draft i will have improve the transparency of the background so it doesn't clash with the devil. Also the font will need a better position but i am really happy with the drawing effect as it makes it look more sketchy and mysterious.

Drafting and planning - Little white lies logo

This is the little white lies logo I will be using for my film magazine. I really like the design of this logo as it appears to be quite plain but effective. I feel this little white lies logo is original and unlike most other film magazines such as NME or Empire which is something i hope to recreate in my film as i do not want to create another typical horror film.

Drafting and planning - Slow motion drop of head phones

After the first victim has been attacked, the headphones in his ear will drop to the floor in a pool of blood in slow motion. This will express to the viewers what has happened, however they can not be too sure as i wont physically show the death appearing.

The clip on the right shows the ring falling from Gollum's pocket and shows it in slow motion. This is what i intend to recreate but headphones falling in blood instead

Drafting and planning - Information about Devil worshipers

On yahoo answers, i asked 'what are people who worship Satan called?' and this was the reply. By 8 people liking the comment. it proves that i can trust this answer and that the information is valid or else they would of all given the comment a thumb down.
This comment has shown me that Satanists accept the existence of God but choose to go against its methods and teachings.

I have decided to find out more information about satanists found on this link. http://www.churchofsatan.com/

With feedback from class, I was soon to realise that I didn't focus enough on organisation and drafting and planning so over the last week I have shifted my focus towards them.

Organisation + Drafting and planning - Photo's of villain

This is the photo shoot i did of my main villain for the film trailer. Some of these photos could be used for my magazine front cover or poster. I have also edited them slightly to give them a darker effect. This is because they are the villain in the film and they need to appear to have a dark side, shown by the first picture as the one side if blacked out.

Organisation - pictures of location for shooting

Organisation - Effects i will use

I am playing tubular bells as the main music in my horror film trailer, and because of this, it links too much with 'The exorcist'. For this reason the calm horror music will be playing and then when they are searching for an exit, One of the main characters will be killed, which will then show the headphones in blood, playing the music. (The viewer will not see which character will be killed.)

After this the camera will be spiraling up showing one of the main characters dead and faced down on the floor with their hood up. The camera will be showing the headphones on the floor next to him covered in blood and from this the tubular bells music will be playing almost giving a feel of the music being diegetic sound as i haven't added it on top.

Research into similar products - Camerawork to use

In my film trailer there will be a mysterious dead body killed by Lucifer and the victims friends will be crowding round and scared. When this is happening the camera will be spiraling up and the tubular bells music will start to create a seance of tension similar to the knock out scene in the film snatch where mickey knocks out gorgeous George. The music in this is the most important factor as it creates the scene which is what to hope to recreate in my trailer.

Drafting and planning - Planning possible music choices

When my trailer Is playing I have decided that there will be some key non diegetic music playing in the background. For the music to be effective it must suit the theme of the trailer and the actions being performed so if there is quick paced editing in the scene the music must be quick but if it is slow then the music must add to the tension and create a chilling or happy atmosphere.
The music I will be choosing has no lyrics to it making it more of a melody, I personally feel that if my music was to have lyrics it could potentially distract the attention of the audience and reduced the spookiness of the trailer. The music I am thinking of is along the lines of this:

The tubular bells would be the perfect music for the fast paced editing in my film clip. However I do not feel that this music would compliment any slow paced editing used throughout my clip so it cannot be played all the way through. This means that I need to look for some sound that would suit the slow paced editing to play over the top and then when the disaster happens I will slowly progress into tubular bells.

organisation - Film Pitch

My film that i am creating is a horror film named 'Lucifer'. This film is about a young group of people who hear and old legend about a man named Lucifer who became possessed by the devil and decide it will be fun to go and record there night in Lucifer's house. Unfortunately they didn't believe the legend and slowly Lucifer kills them one by one.

I came up with the name Lucifer as that name is another name for the devil but also sounds like an everyday name almost creating a secret meaning behind the film and making it feel more realistic.

Throughout the film there will be major elements of darkness thus making my film a 15. There will be a lot of element s of violence but no sexual assault or any torturing thus making it an potentially enjoyable film for the audience type.

Ethan Hawke Picture
Ethan Hawke: Born on November 6, 1970 in Austin, Texas. Ethan Hawke has played key roles in Horror films such as Sinister and the Purge which have been rated as some of the best horror films of this generation. My target audience will be mostly fans of Ethan Hawkes work as he is a truly a great actor.

Rose Byrne Picture
Rose Byrne: was born in Balmain, Sydney, Australia. She landed her first role in the movie Dallas Doll (1994) when she was 15 years old.  She has more recently played in horror films such as Insidious and 28 weeks later. These are exceptionally good films which attract a wide audience and her technical ability at expressing emotion will be sure to attract many viewers to the big screen. Drafting and Planning - Film production companies

There are various production companies i can use that have had a substantial amount of success to distribute my film.

20th century fox: 20th Century Fox’s story begins in a tiny theater on New York’s Lower East Side. In 1904, fresh from Hungary, 25-year-old William Fox amazed audiences with his magical hand-cranked films. Some films distributed by 20th century fox are Noah Star wars and Brave-heart.

Warner Bros:  WARNER BROS. ENTERTAINMENT INC. is a fully integrated, broad-based entertainment company and a global leader in the creation, production, distribution, licensing and marketing of all forms of entertainment and their related businesses.
