Research into similar products - Magazine front cover analysis - Tinker Tailor solder spy





Masthead: The mast head is central from the standard left hand side position and is not that assertive to the audience. This creates an effect that the magazine is dominated by Tinker tailor solder spy and the magazine little white lies want you to focus on this instead of claiming any attention.  

Direct mode of address: There is a direct mode of address as it feels that the actor which is Gary Oldman is looking right at you. By having the chess piece there it feels that the viewer is playing against the actor but it creates a psychological effect making them feel as if they are the bad guy. 

No Pugs or Puffs: There are no pugs or puffs distracting the attention of tinker tailor solder spy making the reader feel that the main attention is the film tinker tailor solder spy. 

Image: The image feels as if it has been made into a cartoon but the actor still looks very serious. This creates an impression that the magazine and Film are definitely not a joke. 

The colour scheme: The colour scheme is Analogous as the colours are all blue and complement each other. Blue has a colour connotation of depression and illness which could be insinuating that the story line will create these feeling to the characters.  

Main coverline: The main coverline is not very large and appears to be hidden away by the chess piece. This is used so it doesn't take any of the attention away from the seriousness of the film which is a very clever technique.
